Planting for Garden Day
In the video below, Sally Harman helps us plan for mid to late spring blooms for the garden and the vase. She explains how choosing the right flower form and looking beyond bulbs can provide for a long-lasting spring display for our homes or an upcoming garden tour. Ms. Harman owns Field at Snowden Farm, a landscape design-build business, with her husband George Harvey. She earned her graduate degree in landscape architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design-- where she met George--in 2010, and holds a BFA with Art History emphasis from UNC-Chapel Hill. They started their landscape practice together in 2014, after moving to the historic Snowden Farm property just east of Sally’s hometown of Fredericksburg.
In her pursuit of a greater knowledge of cultural relationships to the landscape, Sally has studied and worked with plants across many disciplines: organic farming to medicinal plant wildcrafting, commercial and residential garden maintenance and design, the wholesale nursery trade to ecological and historical restoration. She recently designed and helped to implement an Ellen Biddle Shipman Demonstration Garden at Chatham Manor in Fredericksburg, to showcase the materials and techniques of Shipman’s exuberant planting schemes. Sally is a member of the Rappahannock Valley Garden Club.

Virtual Tour of Gardens of the Middle Peninsula Garden Club
We were all disappointed to be unable to hold the 2020 Historic Garden Week tour because of the COVID-19 coronavirus.
During Spring 2020, we have been caring for and photographing our gardens, and are sharing them, below, in a Virtual Tour of the Gardens of the Middle Peninsula.
We hope to see everyone next year for 2021 Historic Garden Week. Thank you for your support of the Historic Garden Week, the Garden Club of Virginia, and the Garden Club of the Middle Peninsula.
