Tips on How to Successfully Exhibit Horticulture

Grooming:
1. Specimen should be free of pests and disease.
2. There should be no evidence of dirt or spray on the foliage.
3. Dead or damaged foliage should be removed.
4. Be sure any container used is completely clean.
5. Top dressing may be used but should not exceed rim of container.
6. Staking is acceptable but should be as unobtrusive as possible.
7. Spent pollen should be removed from flower petals.
8. Do not polish leaves.
9. Be sure to condition your specimen thoroughly. Flowers should be 3/4 way open.
10. Wedging material such as plastic wrap helps to exhibit cuttings in the best prospective.
11. Plant material should be in the exhibitor's possession for at least 3 months.
12. Proper labeling including the Genus and species is usually expected.
